CHENGDE ICE SPORTS CENTER

RETAIL AND HOTEL

As the only large city sports center in the core area of Chengde's northern new city, this project boasts a unique location at the bend of the Wulie River, serving as both an important venue for citizens' leisure and entertainment and a key node in the development belt along the Wulie River. Phase II of the project envisions creating a "comprehensive urban sports complex for all people at all times," aiming to build Chengde's most influential new urban landmark integrating sports, tourism, and lifestyle services.

Faced with complex challenges such as the site being divided by rivers and highways, insufficient supporting facilities, limited parking resources, and water source protection, we innovatively proposed the design concept of "integrated development." The architectural style of Phase II is inspired by winter sports. While continuing the style of the existing venues in Phase I, it uses modern architectural language to create a unique landmark image. By carefully planning high-rise hotels and commercial buildings on the south side of Phase I, we not only improve supporting facilities but also use commercial revenue to support the operation of the Phase I venues, thus building a virtuous cycle mechanism for sustainable development.

Featuring winter sports, the project is equipped with professional and comprehensive competition facilities, meeting both the needs of professional athletes and providing high-quality fitness venues for citizens. As a leisure gateway to the northern new city, it aims to become a model base for public fitness and education through the construction of a cultural and sports park and supporting facilities in its second phase. The specially planned serviced apartments can simultaneously meet the diverse needs of athletes and tourists, ensuring efficient 24/7 operation of the facilities.

In terms of spatial organization, we optimized traffic flow to seamlessly connect the first and second phases of the venues, forming an efficient and continuous pedestrian flow. The meticulous layout of diverse business formats provides a rich experience for different groups of people during daily use and during events. The ecological landscape belt built along the Wulie River resembles a winding "green ribbon," combined with artistic lighting design, creating the unique charm of the "Ice and Snow City That Never Sleeps," injecting new vitality into the Wulie River 100-mile landscape belt.

Ecological protection was a central theme throughout the design process. We adopted an environmentally friendly landscape design and strictly safeguarded the safety of drinking water sources. Future development will further alleviate parking pressure through the construction of the South Bank Cultural and Sports Park and underground parking, ultimately creating an integrated indoor-outdoor regional sports center.

This project, through innovative design that integrates space, functions, and prioritizes ecology, not only successfully overcomes current challenges but also sets a new benchmark for public sports facilities in Chengde with its innovative operating model, becoming a vital engine for improving urban quality and people's livelihoods.
